How our collaboration began
Our collaboration with Northward Acoustics began with an order placed in Selka’s online store: we received an order for three identical height-adjustable tables to Belgium. Juha Nevalainen from Selka reached out to the customer, Thomas Jouanjean, to confirm the details of the order. During the call, it turned out that Thomas is the founder of Northward Acoustics, a high-end acoustic design company that has created over 200 recording studios across four continents.
Thomas was interested in testing whether Selka’s small height-adjustable tables could work as a speaker stand in a studio environment. This marked the beginning of an intensive product development project, resulting in a height-adjustable speaker stand that meets the exacting standards of studio professionals.

From a Speaker Stand to a Product Family
The speaker stand combines the design expertise of Tuukka Nokkala from Selka and the acoustic know-how of Northward. Its stable structure, stepless height adjustment, and sleek design make it an ideal solution for studio settings. The stands incorporate advanced damping technologies such as Constraint Layer Damping (CLD) and pre-tensioned decoupler elements, which reduce resonance and improve sound quality. The stands are exceptionally heavy and designed to prevent vibrations from being transmitted from the speakers to the studio structures. Their stepless height adjustment allows precise speaker positioning according to the acoustic requirements of the studio and the preferences of the sound engineer.
From product development to global deliveries
The collaboration quickly expanded to include e-commerce solutions. “We already had experience building our own online store, SELKAstore, and logistics connections in place,” recalls Juha from Selka. Together, the partners launched Northward’s own webshop: Northward Systems. The products were designed from the start to be flat-packable, ensuring global delivery. As part of the product development process, assembly instructions and marketing materials, including product images for the webshop, were also created. Today, Selka manages the entire production chain—from sourcing and storage to manufacturing, packaging, order handling, and delivery.

A growing product family
The product family has since expanded to include a mixing desk, featuring a rotating monitor mount – a crucial element in music production, where quick adjustments to screen positioning can be vital to the creative process. The speaker stands have received an excellent response from studio professionals and have been delivered to customers around the world. The product range continues to grow, with a few new products currently in development.

Northward Acoustics specializes in the design and construction of high-end recording studios.
